Due to the increased time spent at
home, it is more likely that children have been exposed to domestic violence. As
children move back into school settings, it’s important to recognise the signs
children display that could have stemmed from exposure to domestic violence, that's why we're highlighting our Domestic Violence E-Learning as our Course of the Week.
If you notice children are:
· Becoming
aggressive towards themselves and their peers
· Displaying
inappropriate behaviour
· Becoming
withdrawn and isolate themselves from others
· Becoming
anxious
· Falling
behind at school
· Are clingy
towards familiar people
· Wetting the bed
These could be the tell-tale signs that children have witnessed domestic violence in the home. Where children and young adults are affected by this behaviour it can pose significant and long term harm to their overall wellbeing.
This sits under the umbrella of Safeguarding, due to the varying types of abuse a child may experience in this situation. As such, it is important to understand and recognise domestic violence, which is one of the most common but hidden forms of abuse.
