Learners excel at first childcare competition

04/05/2018

Last Friday was another exciting first for BB Training Academy, as two of our hard-working learners took part in a childcare competition at South Leicestershire College.

It was a great opportunity for them to showcase their skillset and confidence, as they completed activities for a panel of judges against several training colleges from across the Midlands.

Our two learners were Ameana Mangera from Busy Bees at Coventry Walsgrave and Carlota Pacheco Ferreira from Busy Bees Nottingham Daybrook, who are both working towards their Level 3 Early Years Apprenticeship.

The day was jam packed, consisting of two graded activities that were marked against the Early Years Quality Assurance framework. The first was based around healthy eating and challenged the learners to find a partner from a competing college to create an educational display that had the wow factor.

They had 30 minutes to make a creative board suitable for three to five-year-olds, ensuring the board was engaging and provided learning opportunities for the children. The learners were then assessed on their organisational skills, quality of their display and their interpersonal skills.

The second activity required the learners to read a story, called Handa’s Surprise, to three and four-year-olds. They were asked to bring the story to life with props and visual aids, and were scored on how much they engaged the children with the learning opportunities they created.

We’re exceptionally proud of both Ameana and Carlota for their hard work and for the time they spent preparing ahead of the event. They were extremely enthusiastic, professional and overall a great asset to BB Training Academy.

Although we didn’t take the top spot, we gave it our all and came away with a fantastic score and brand new memories. Thank you and a big well done once again to both of our learners for all their efforts.

We would also like to thank South Leicestershire College for hosting such a great day. We learned a lot and it was a privilege to be involved in the competition. We are already looking forward to returning next year and all we can say is, watch this space!
