National Pet Day 2024 – The Importance of Pet First Aid

10/04/2024

National Pet Day

National Pet Day, celebrated annually on April 11th, is a day founded by pet and family lifestyle expert Colleen Paige. It's a time to honour not only the unconditional bond between humans and animals but also to raise awareness about pet welfare. National Pet Day reminds us to cherish our pets and celebrate the extraordinary impact they have on our well-being and happiness.

With a staggering 57% of households across the UK owning pets, it's evident that we're a nation undoubtedly obsessed with animals. However, as amazing as having a pet sounds, it's crucial to recognise the responsibility this brings and to understand what to do in a pet emergency. For National Pet Day 2024, we are exploring the importance of pet first aid.

Why pet first aid matters

Pet First Aid isn't just about bandaging wounds or performing CPR, it's about equipping ourselves with the knowledge and skills to respond effectively to emergencies and understanding the signs our pets may be giving us. Whether it's stabilising injuries, understanding the signs of distress, or knowing when to seek professional help, pet first aid empowers us to be proactive caregivers for our animals.

Our pet first aid course has been developed with Blue Cross and offers a wide range of information on how to keep your pet healthy, how to avoid potential dangers, and what to do in a pet emergency. The course is broken down into three sections; preventative help, hazards in the home, garden, and on walks, and what to do in a pet emergency. This course is an hour long and is available online for as little as £17.50.

Our pets offer a positive impact on our well-being, and it is vital that we offer the same love and support back to them. A pet first aid course can help put your mind at ease or set you up with skills in the case of a pet emergency. This National Pet Day, let's make sure we are giving back to our pets and looking after their well-being.
