What Will I learn?

This dementia awareness training course will refresh your existing knowledge of dementia and ensure you have the latest updates on advancements and treatments.

The course covers all aspects of dementia, including the symptoms to look out for, understand what the different types of dementia are, who is most at risk from the illness, the importance of early diagnosis, information on how dementia is diagnosed and the stigma around dementia.

You will cover the theory of person-centred dementia care and how to put this into practice and the importance of involving family members and offering support.

Learn how to communicate appropriately with someone with dementia and how to care for someone who is displaying challenging behaviour

  • Symptoms of dementia – How the brain is affected the role of a carer, memory loss, disorientation, personality change, difficulties with everyday tasks and words and how dementia progresses
  • Diagnosis – contacting a doctor, early diagnosis, how dementia is diagnosed, contacting a support group, living and work arrangements, driving, legal and financial affairs and treatment for dementia
  • Caring for someone with dementia – Equality and diversity in dementia, recognise and help prevent abuse, person centred care, remaining independent, managing relationships, memory aids, everyday life, diet and general health and care planning and getting further help and support. Learning about the persons past , the role of friends and relatives and building relationships, non-verbal communication
