Protecting children is the responsibility of all professionals, you should attend this course if you work with children within a professional setting or school and come into contact with children and young people in the course of your work, whether in the statutory or voluntary sector.

This course will support you in identifying the signs and symptoms of abuse and who to report your concerns to. You will be able to explore legislation that supports everything you do to keep children and young people safe.

Key Topics

  • Recognise potential indicators of child maltreatment – physical, emotional, neglect, sexual abuse, radicalisation, child trafficking and Female Genital Mutilation. 
  • Understand the impact a parent/carer’s physical and mental health can have on the well-being of a child or young person, including the impact of domestic violence
  • Understand the importance of children’s rights in the safeguarding/child protection context
  • Know what action to take if you have concerns, including who you should report your concerns to and from where you should seek advice from 
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the risks associated with the internet and online social networking
