Sign of the times with Makaton workshops

Tue 21st May 2019

BB Training, an award-winning education provider in the care sector, and part of the Busy Bees Group, is exhibiting at the Childcare Expo in Manchester on 14th and 15th June, following successful attendances at other Childcare Expos.

To mark its return to one of the sector’s key events, BB Training is holding a Makaton workshop on Friday, 14th June, where delegates can learn more about this one-of-a-kind communication system.

Makaton is a unique language programme which uses signs and symbols to support the spoken language of children and adults. It is designed to support individuals that have a variety of differing communication needs, such as babies learning to communicate, children with delayed speech, individuals with Downs syndrome, learning difficulties or Autism, to name just a few.

Rebecca Walker, Regional Trainer and Makaton Tutor for BB Training, will be delivering the session and she is hoping to attract an enthusiastic audience.  “Not being able to communicate can make an individual very angry or frustrated as they are unable to convey what they want or how they feel. Using Makaton helps to overcome this through effective communication.

“The taster session will provide delegates with an understanding of Makaton and look at the many benefits of using it in a fun and enjoyable way” she said. “We will look at some concepts of signs and symbols from the Makaton Core Vocabulary and demonstrate how they can be used to help develop language and communication skills.”

There will also be a special offer available to attendees who book a place on a level 1 or 2 course if booked on the day.

As an ‘outstanding’ graded national training provider, BB Training delivers apprenticeships, CPD courses and accredited qualifications to the early years, adult social care and clinical care sectors.  It provides flexible childcare courses and teaching assistant training as well as qualification packages specialising in early years, childcare or education sectors to help develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours employers are looking for.

The BB Training team, on stand B40, will also be advising visitors about Apprenticeships, Advanced Learner Loans and their full suite of CPD and First Aid courses.

BB Training is playing a key role in introducing a new generation of childcare professionals to the sector, with the launch of over 300 childcare apprenticeships in its Busy Bees nurseries across the UK.
